Jay Hernandez
Founder-Basketball Skills Trainer

Jay is being recognized by many basketball icons to be the leader of the next generation of trainers.  Jay trains a number of NBA players as well as aspiring amateurs.  Jay also works with Collegiate Programs like the University of Maryland, Villanova, Hofstra, Columbia and others.  

Jay is the National Camp Director for the Adidas based Phenom Camps held in San Diego, CA.  Jay has been featured on Sportskool, a cable television channel in NY where subscribers get free sports advice from players and coaches like Bill Walton, Mia Hamm and others.  Jay also produced a video with Boston Celtics Star, Wally Szczerbiak on driils and skills. More videos are coming through a new series called Advanced Basketball Training.  Jay is a a featured expert on Hoopsking.com and has been  in FIBA Assist Magazine, Draft Express, Daily News, Newsday, USA Today and more.  Jay has played with and against the likes of Kobe Bryant, Elton Brand, Desmond Mason, Earl Watson, Steve Francis, Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, Speedy Claxton, Carlos Arroyo, Wally Szczerbiak and others.  

Jay played professionally in Puerto Rico for 5 seasons where he was named Captain, was top 10 in the league in Assists and won a 3-point shooting competition.  In college Jay was a 4 year starter at UNH and Hofstra, 1,000 point scorer, defensive player of the yr, shooter of the yr, All Rookie Team, Chevrolet Player of the Game versus UCLA and 2x captain of Hofstra's back to back NCAA Tournament appearances.  Jay is the youngest Legend ever selected by the CAA.  Jay played HS ball at St. Dominic where he led the team to 2 LI Cathloic Championships and 1 State Catholic Championship.  Jay was picked by Newsday as one of the top 10 Catholic School Players of all time

Director of the Wally Szczerbiak Basketball Camp


John is an accomplished basketball player who has made an easy transition into becoming a Pro Hoops Basketball Skills Trainer.  John has been a part of the Pro Hoops program as a player working out alongside Wally Szczerbiak (Cleveland Cavaliers) in preparation for their upcoming seasons. John has also worked with Pro Hoops as a guest clinician and trainer during the pre/post season of our HS and younger players for over 6 years.  John is the director of youth development for our summer programs and he is the Director of the Wally Szczerbiak Basketball Camp.  The camp has grown every year under his leadership and players leave the camp excited about the new moves they will get to use in their upcoming seasons.

Razz played professionally for 3 years in Italy and Germany.  In his last season Razz tallied 45% from 3, 60% from the field and over 80% from the line.  John played at Sacred Heart where he was a 1,000 point scorer, captain of the team and played 3 positions.  Razz made 181 3 pointers in his career and 91 came in his senior season.  He majored in Business.  In HS Razz played at Oceanside and dominated the competion his senior year averaging nearly 28 points per game and finished his career with 1,000 points and was an Accomplished soccer player as well being named an All-American.

Director of Pro Hoops Shooter Academy


Mucci made his mark on the court where he has helped develop players for years at very successful DI programs.  Mucci has been an integral part of developing Pro Hoops Inc.'s Pre-Draft Clientele and continues to be one of the best shooting instructors in the World.  Mucci was an intregral part of helping Cedric Simmons (NBA Draft/15th) during Pre-draft, working on his offensive moves and shooting mechanics.   Mucci also got Jameer Nelson into the program and has worked with many great guards over the years.

Mucci was the Head Assistant at Columbia for two seasons helping make them one of the most dangerous teams in the IVY League.  He was an assistant coach at Manhattan for four seasons, and the top assistant for Bobby Gonzalez for the final two years of his tenure. The Jaspers enjoyed one of the best seasons in school history in 2002-03, finishing 23-7 overall and winning its second-ever MAAC Championship.  Before Manhattan, Mucci was the top assistant at Delaware State University, was an assistant coach at St. Peter's College and was an assistant to New York basketball legend Willis Reed, then the general manager of the New Jersey Nets, for one year.  Mucci began his coaching career after he graduated from Ramapo College in 1990 with a B.A. in political science. He coached at his alma mater from 1990-94, assisting the 1991 team to a Div. III Final Four appearance.

Mucci was the starting center for Ramapo his senior year. He also played two seasons at forward for Concordia (N.Y.) College.  Mucci attended Bergenfield High School and made the all-state third team his senior year, leading the county in scoring and rebounding.

Bethany trained with Jay when she was in HS and we are so honored to have her come back and train aspiring players to be the best they can be.  Since Bethany has been a part of the program as a player she can translate with conviction why our moves work, why they are needed and when to use them.  Bethany is highly sought after by male and female clietele b/c she knows how to teach, motivate and develop programs that make players better.

Bethany played the 1, 2 and the 3, was a 3-year starter at the University of Georgetown as well as a team Captain.  She has received honors like Defensive Player of the Year for GU and the Patricia E. Corace Hustle Award.  Bethany was in the top ten in steals in the Big East her Junior and Senior years.  Bethany was also in the top 3 in over 5 categories for GU.  This just shows her toughness and unselfishness.  Out of HS, Bethany accepted a full scholarship to UVA and participated in the NCAA Tournament.    

A four year starter at guard for Garden City High School , Bethany led the team to three Long Island Championships ... twice named Gatorade Player of the Year for New York ... was Named New York Miss Basketball for 2000-01 ... was a Street & Smith All American as well as a USA Today All American ... holds the Long Island scoring record with 3,167 points ... played in the WBCA High School All America game ... was named First Team All-State in soccer and was All-County twice ... member of the National Honor Society/Merit Scholar and has just been inducted into the Garden City Hall of Fame.

Ross Burns, a member of the 1996 UMass team that went to the Final Four, joins the passionate staff of Pro Hoops and adds more depth and experience to the program.  Ross has extensive experience as a player, coach as well as a trainer in the College/Pro Camps that Pro Hoops has held over the years.  Ross is a vital part of developing our College and Pro base and his connections bring some of the top talent in the Country coming into the gym.  

Ross spent 3 seasons as the Head Assistant at Fordham University.  Ross  prepared scouting reports, assisted with on-campus recruiting and skill development with players.  He also spent time at Youngstown State University where the class he recruited was listed in the top 100 in the country.  Ross also spent 2 seasons at Wagner College where he helped get the Seahawks to the NIT.  Ross also served as the camp director for the Dereck Whittenburg Basketball School.

During his college days he spent several summers as a coach and camp counselor at the Five-Star and Eastern Invitational Basketball Camps as well as the John Calipari/Bruiser Flint Basketball School.

A 1999 graduate of the University of Massachusetts and Greenfield, Massachusetts native, Burns earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Education with a minor in Economics. He was a four-year letter winner on the basketball team and an athletic honor roll student.

Basketball Trainer

Tim joins the Pro Hoops family from another great basketball family, the Burns'.  Ross and Tim are one of  the only brother combinations to participate in the Final 4 for two different teams.  Tim brings great knowledge, playing experience and passion into his sessions with players.  Tim has been instrumental in the success of the Pro Hoops Academy for College players and has been a part of many of the successful Pro Hoops Camps for boys and girls.  Tim is highly sought after and is working with some of the top players and has traveled to Alaska to share the Pro Hoops concepts. Tim has extensive experience working with the nations top HS prospects through his days with Five Star, Eastern and Jim Larranaga basketball camps.

Tim was a member of the George Mason team that set a school record for wins (27) and went to the Final 4.  Shot 40% from three, leading team in 3 pt percentage.  In the opening round win against Michigan State,Tim stepped up on the defensive end helping lock in on great players like Shannon Brown and Maurice Ager. George Mason also lost in the 3rd round of the NIT during Tim's Freshman season.

Post Grad 2003 - Won NEPSAC Championship with Worcester Academy, averaged 10 ppg for a team that sent 9 players to Division 1. Tim was also named 1st team WMASS as a Junior and Senior in HS.  Tim led his team to the Western Mass finals and  the Championship during his time.  







Allison Hernandez
Director of Managerial Operations

Allison has been a major driving force in the success of Pro Hoops during its formative stages as well as in the present.  Allison is responsible for most of the behind the scenes work which includes areas like finance, accounting, marketing, sales and more.  She can do it all and we are grateful to have her on our team. Allison has been quoted as saying, " I have put up with Jay since High School so the rest of this stuff is easy".  Allison is married to Jay and has 3 kids with him named McKayla, Michael and Morgan.
Wally Szczerbiak of the Cleveland Cavaliers works hard in the off-season and has been using freeze pull-ups to the dismay of his competitors.  He is real optimistic about his role on the team and is excited about the teams chances of making it far into the playoffs.  
Speedy Claxton of the Atlanta Hawks is a great floor general, defender and person. Speedy has proven year in and year out that he is valuable teammate and a player who steps up when his team needs him most.  
Drew Nicholas is a former standout guard and National Champion from the University of Maryland. Drew worked out hard with Pro Hoops and got ready to play last year for one of the best teams on the planet and won the Italian title.  Drew is now in Turkey lighting it up again against some unsuspecting foes and will continue to get up as high as ever on his pull ups.
